Summary
Suffrage also known as franchise is the right of voting for all. Back in the days only wealthy people and only men were allowed to vote meaning that women voices were not heard. African Americans were not allowed to vote due to the fact that they were poor and had very little education and in order to prevent them to vote they would poll tax them and made them take literacy tests. But in March 30,1870 everything changed and finally African Americans were allowed to vote beacuse the 15 th amendment was passed. A lot of amendments were passed to make things easier for those who wanted to vote such as 19 Th amendment which allowed women to vote, 24th amendment which eliminated poll taxation and literacy tests, and the 26 Th amendment which it allowed those who were 18 and above to vote.
